World’s Cheapest Tablet Aakash Launched Today

NEW DELHI: India's finally got its much hyped low-cost tablet, Aakash. The tablet is developed by the Indian Institute of Technology and would cost approximately Rs2999. It will be available from November 2011.

The tablet runs on Android 2.2 (Froyo) and comes with a 7 inch resistive touch screen with 800x480 resolution and weighs 350 gm. Aakash is collaboration between the government and a British-based company Data Wind. The tablet has a 256 MB of RAM, a 32 GB expandable memory slot and two USB ports.The tablet comes with a 12-month replacement warranty and supports formats like DOC, DOCX, PDF and PPTX etc. Aakash has standard 3.5 mm headphones jack.

The commercial version of the tablet would have no duty waivers or subsidy, as in the government's version and come with added features like an inbuilt cellular modem and SIM to access internet. The government will be acquiring the tablet for Rs 2250 from Data Wind which will be supplied to the students across the country.

Speaking at an award ceremony held in New Delhi by the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) last month, Communications and Information Technology minister Kapil Sibal had said that the tablet would help children go beyond the boundary of classroom and teachers to acquire knowledge through IT. The tablet is developed as a part of the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology that aims to link 25,000 colleges and 400 universities for an e-learning programme.

What Makes an Entertaining Animated Video?

Informing and educating are some of the most important elements for an animated video to be entertaining. They draw a fair number of YouTube viewers if you do it right. But everybody likes to be entertained which is why pure entertainment videos typically show up at the top of YouTube’s most viewed lists. What’s entertaining? Well, I wish I knew. I can tell you what I find entertaining, but I can’t tell you what might entertain someone else. Entertainment, like all art, is in the eye of the beholder, what I laugh at might leave you cold, and vice versa.

In the corporate world, there is an increasing demand of animated video and instructional video services. Business use animated videos for explaining about their services in an entertaining manner. Online viewers prefer seeing a video which appeals to them visually rather than seeing dry and boring content, which otherwise is available on most websites. That said, here’s what I do know about animated videos. When they work, they work really well. They are entertaining videos and are more likely to go viral.

When a viewer finds something really entertaining on YouTube, he watches it over and over again and even shares it with his friends. A similar thing happens with corporate videos, for instance if you share an instructional video with your friends and clients. You share the video because you found the video entertaining. And perhaps you thought that the company services might be of some use to your friends. That’s how viral videos are created, by one user sharing with another, who shares it with another, who shares it with another, until that video is viewed by tens or hundreds of thousands of people.
It comes across to be something like what is known as Web video marketing. And the kind of animated video that most often gets passed around is the one that entertains. What then, do YouTube viewers find entertaining? It’s a relatively short list, including humorous videos, those that feature amazing stunts, those that include fancy special effects, and those that have some sort of shock value. Something that gives the viewer additional information of what that they might what to know. They get this information through an animated video in a simple, yet entertaining manner.

Similarly, a corporate video giving a brief description about a company’s business, service or brand can be used as a great tool for web video marketing. One of my favorite examples of entertaining videos continues to be those which turn into a series of videos that spread across the Internet like wildfire. The benefit from a creative idea can be well executed in an entertaining fashion by a video. And as YouTube continues to prove, videos that are fun to watch get watched a lot.
